2003-04 Seattle 4 Rotary Club's First Demining Project
- When: September 1, 2003 – October 31, 2004
- Partnership: In 2003 HALO Trust partners with the Seattle 4 Rotary Club
- Cost of Project: $48,000 (split $40K mine clearance, $8K school build)
- Location: Kamreing (Western Cambodia)
- Three villages demined (Ou Chambok village, Ou Anlouk village, Ou Chamlang village)
- Plus a school and three wells built (School built at Ou Chambok village)
2005 U.S. Department of State Partnered with HALO Trust and Rotary International in the Form of a Matching Grant for 2006
1st HALO Trust Foundation Coalition Project
- When: January 1, 2006 – December 31, 2006
- Cost of Project: $85,000
- Matching Grant: $42,500 from the U.S. Department of State
- Location: Two Manual Demining Sections in Kouk Romiet Commune
- Rotary Club Partners:
- Seattle #4 (WA), New Canaan (CT), Ballard (WA), Issaquah (WA), Oakland (CA), West Seattle (WA), Smithtown (NY), Sea Tac (WA), Milford (CT), Butler Tri-Boro (NJ), Mesquite (TX)
2nd HALO Trust Foundation Coalition Project (Matching Grant $65,000):
- When: Fundraising Period- January 2007-June 2007/Demining- July 2007-June 2008
- Cost of Project: $115,000
- Matching Grant: $65,000 from the U.S. Department of State
- Location: is targeting the village of Lvea (264 families) in Malai District.
- Rotary Club Partners: The final tallies are not yet in, but the following Rotary Clubs have joined this initiative so far:
- Seattle #4 (WA), University Club (WA), Arlington (TX), Utica (NY), Enumclaw (WA), Issaquah (WA), Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club (WA)
Current Efforts
3rd HALO Trust Foundation Coalition Project
- When: Fundraising Period- July 2007 – November 2008/Demining- December 2007 – November 2008
- Cost of Project: $150,000
- Matching Grant: $50,000 from the U.S. Department of State ($25,000 will be allocated to Rotary Projects including District 7620)
- Note- HALO Trust is seeking other sources for additional matching grants
- Location: HALO is currently working through the planning process with the Mine Action Planning Unit of Banteay, Meanchey Province, plus the commune & district authorities in Malai to demine approximately 60 Hectares in 2008, with a further 30 Hectares on the reserve list
- Villages to be cleared: Lvea, Phnum Rung, & Sanke located in the Banteay Meanchey Province of Northwestern Cambodia
- * Note: Demining teams work down a prioritized task list, but due to changing circumstances (such as accident rates, population movements) minefield priorities are subject to change
- General Focus of Demining: HALO’s operations are focused on the northwest provinces of Cambodia where the most landmine problems exist and in large part the K-5 mine belt along the Cambodian-Thai border
- Rotary Club Partners: Will include many of the clubs that have supported similar projects in the past, as well as Rotaract and Rotary Clubs in Rotary International District 7620
